The Allen's big-eared bat (Idionycteris phyllotis) is a large-eared bat newly documented in Colorado in 2008. It is similar in appearance to the Townsend's big-eared bat and has long been suspected as a resident in Colorado, but has eluded capture attempts. It was documented in southwestern Colorado based on its vocal characticstics in southwestern, but a specimen has recently been discovered near Grand Junction. It is associated with arid shrublands, Ponderoa pine forests, pinyon-juniper woodlands, and riparian deciduous galleries.
