California myotis

rschorr's picture

The California myotis (Myotis californicus) is a small (approximately 5 g), pale-colored bat with dark, pointed ears. It is easily confused with a similar-sized and colored bat, the small-footed myotis (M. ciliolabrum). This bat is found in western North America, and in Colorado is restricted to the lower valleys and forest of the West Slope. It can be found in semi-desert scrublands and pinyon-juniper woodlands. In the picture, the California myotis (on the right) is alongside a small-footed myotis (on the left).
