The hoary bat (Lasiurus cinerus) is one the largest (25 g) and colorful bats in Colorado. It is a migratory tree bat, traveling great distances between wintering grounds and summer habitats. Like other lasiurines, such as the red bat and the silver-haired bat, it roosts solitarily in trees.  It is found throughout much of North America and can be found from the plains to timberline in Colorado. It has orangish coloration around the face, but is dark-colored with frost-tipped hairs on the rest of the body. It is the only native mammal species in Hawaii.
