The spotted bat (Euderma maculatum) is a medium-sized bats with large pink ears and 3 distinct white patches on a black pelage. This gorgeous bat is notoriously difficult to capture making it difficult to understand how abundant it is in the West. It's one of a few species that will regularly vocalize in frequencies that humans can hear. Once captured, this bat is known to be one of the most docile. Little is known about this bat's ecology, but it is believed to prefer pinyon-juniper, desert shrublands, and Ponderosa pine forests.
